I don’t know about you but I’ve seen loads of stuff floating around the internet about self-care. I’ve kind of dipped in and out, because like most people, where’s the time? But sometimes self-esteem can take a nose dive and I decided that, for May, after getting through edits and the Easter holidays, I might take a closer look.
There’s loads of self-care challenges out there. If you Google it, you’ll find month-long guides with all sorts of things on them like go for a walk, drink more water, take a bath etc. I’ve always drunk lots of water (it’s about the only good habit I have!) and with having a dog I have to take him for walks. I’ve even been known to have a bath once in a while! But where I fall down is with taking care of myself. My nails break and I never file them until I’ve scratched myself in the face once too often, I’ve got nail polish on my toenails that has been there for months (gross, I know. Sorry!) and I’ve got a whole tub full of lotions and potions I’ve been given for Christmas and Mother’s Day that I haven’t had chance to use yet.
So, I’ve decided that rather than follow a 30-day self-care plan from the internet that I’ll probably argue with at some point and throw aside, or that’ll make me feel bad for not sticking to it, I’d tailor something to myself that fits with the time I’ve got available and suits my lifestyle.
I’m going to try and do at least one thing a week from a big long list I’m currently preparing. It might be file and paint my nails, write down three things I’m grateful for, do a facemask, deep condition my hair, call a friend… I’m not sure what. I reckon that once a week I can find some time do at least one thing and I’ll let you know if I feel any different at the end of it.
