One writerly question, one answer, one minute to read!
Here we go…Here are my top 3 tips on writing a series!
- Make notes!
When writing a series, you don’t want, character’s, views and locations changing because you’ve forgotten where they were in the first place or what they were doing! It’s always useful to make notes and the more detailed the better!
2. Draw a map!
I love it when I see maps in people’s books and have a good old study before I start reading. Maps aren’t only useful for you to know what you’re doing and ensuring continuity in your novel, they’re brilliant for marketing (free giveaway for signing up to your mailing list?), can form the background of your website if you’re good at drawing, and it’s some of that fabulous behind the scenes information we all love to read!
3. Character’s need to change!
All character’s need to have their own lives and change during the course of a novel and series. If you can map out the character arc for a series in advance, fabulous! If you can’t, then make sure you stick to rule one anyway because if you decide later on to make a book into a series, you’ll already have laid the groundwork!
