One writerly question, one answer, one minute to read!

Here we go… Do I need a social media platform?

My personal opinion is a big fat ‘Yes!’ but maybe not for the reason’s you might think.

We often read that agents and publishers want you active on social media, but that isn’t always true. If you hate it, are you going to give it the time and energy it needs? Because, trust me, it can take a lot of time away from your writing! So, I’d say, if it isn’t your cup of tea, don’t do it. Or if you prefer one medium over another, concentrate on that and do it well.

The key to growing a following is engagement so if you decide to look at a social media platform, then you need to take this into account. It means spending time posting and interacting and that brings me on nicely to why I think you should have a go…

Because interacting with people is fun!

Don’t believe me? It totally is! Yes, sometimes people get humpy, but you can always avoid that. I’ve made some amazing connections with other writers, publishers, book bloggers and readers that have stopped me feeling lonely and made meeting people in real life even easier! I love talking to people about what they’re up to or what they’re reading, and all in all, I’ve found the world of social media a lovely place to be! If you’re still on the fence, then give it a try. You’ve got nothing to lose!
