Lost Words – Let’s Bring ‘Em Back!

As a lot of this blog is about writing, I wanted to write a regular article on my favourite forgotten words. You know the type of thing, those poor lost words that sit at the back of our minds, gathering dust, having been discovered years ago in literary classics like Dickens, or Austen. They are the spices of the literary world, but I refuse to let them sit in a cupboard and be ignored until...

New Year, New Gear (And Goals!)

Hold up! 2018 is here! How can that be? Last year was my first year of being pretty much a full time writer and it shot by in a flash. I had some short stories published, which was awesome and I’ve had some requests from publishers for my manuscript, which is equally awesome (I’m still waiting to hear but will update you when I do!). On reflection I consider it to be pretty successful but I want...

The End of NaNoWriMo

So NaNoWriMo has been all about my new novel and I’m so excited to have the first draft finished! I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s a cosy murder mystery set in England in the 1950’s, in a small country village. The plot centres around a reading club who focus on murder and crime novels. They’re called The Sleuthing Club! Awesome, isn’t it! The main sleuth is a vicars daughter, called...

Winning or Losing at NaNoWriMo

I nervously began my first NaNoWriMo this month and though the idea was a little intimidating to begin with, I can say wholeheartedly that I loved it! I had my WIP (a 1950s murder mystery) all plotted out but hadn’t written a single word of the actual manuscript because life kept getting in the way. You know the thing, endless housework, sick kids etc. But thanks to NaNo I finished the 50,000...

My First NaNoWriMo

Yesterday I began my first ever NaNoWriMo challenge. For those that don’t know, it’s National Novel Writing Month in November and the challenge is to write 50,000 words and produce a first draft by the end of the month. I already had a novel planned out, a 1950’s murder mystery story, but due to life getting in the way, hadn’t managed to write a single word of the actual manuscript. I decided to...

Katie Ginger

The first thing you need to know about me is, I like gin. Lots and lots of gin.
I live in the South East of England in a lovely little town by the sea and spend my time working, running around after my kids, walking our King Charles Spaniel, Wotsit, and writing!

I love history and have a Master’s degree, but have also been lucky enough to work in various castles and museums over the years. I’ve yet to get one of them into a story though – I really must try harder!
